Located in the extreme south-east of France, 30 kilometres from the Italian border, Nice is a colourful Mediterranean mish-mash flanked by the gorgeous Bay of Angels on one side and the rolling Ligurian Alps on the other. Nice's 350,000 inhabitants enjoy superb culture (museums, plays, opera, libraries and concerts) as well as blue skies, sparkling sea and sun year-round. Numerous public works by celebrated artists such as Chagall, Nikki de Saint-Phalle and Matisse are dotted around the city.
The Old Nice is a labyrinthine quarter of medieval streets, delicious local delicacies for nibbling on the go (courgette fritters, pissaladière, socca) and a decidedly Italian feel. Enjoy the sea air and gorgeous views as you stroll along the Promenade des Anglais, walking in the footsteps of celebrities as diverse as King Farouk of Egypt and the Rolling Stones.
