This special Easter and Summer language programme includes 20, 28 or 40 English lessons per week, with or without activities. It is available for students aged 14 - 19.
We offer courses for all levels of English proficiency. Students take an placement test upon arrival and are placed in the appropriate class. Class sizes are small, at an average of 10/12 students in the summer and 10 at other times of the year. The courses emphasize oral communication and other practical aspects of the language. Attending lessons is compulsory.
You have the choice between three different programmes:
- Holiday Programme: 20 lessons per week
This programme is available at ETC and Westbourne Academy.
This is the perfect option for students who are looking to combine their lessons with activities. Lessons are available for all levels, for beginners to advanced students. Lessons take place in the morning or afternoon from Monday to Friday. Theses lessons combine perfectly with the Excursions option, which includes supervised group activities outside of lesson times (see activities section) during the Easter and summer holidays.
If you choose this programme, we will respect your choice of school, however we reserve the right to place you in either of the schools depending on availabilities, after having spoken to you about the change.
- Semi-Intensive Course: 28 lessons per week
This programme is available at ETC and only for students aged 16 - 19.
Slightly more intensive, these courses take place in the mornings and part of the afternoon. Students taking the Semi-Intensive course are not able to take part in the "excursions" option.
- Intensive Course: 40 lessons per week
This programme is available at Westbourne Academy, from one to four weeks and is only open to students aged 16 - 19.
It is aimed at students who are highly motivated to work intensively on their English and make rapid progress in a short amount of time (writing, spoken & written comprehension, conversation...). This intensive programme is not available for beginners or for very advanced students. We do not recommend this programme for students under the age of 16. The lessons take place in the mornings and afternoons from Monday to Friday, and are therefore not compatible with the "excursions" option.
English and Excursions
During the Belgian Easter holidays (see the prices & dates tab) and during the months of July and August, we offer the possibility to take part in an excursion programme as well as English lessons.
Visit our 2012 Scrapbook and see the activities in photos.
This option is especially designed to enable young people to make the most of their holidays while improving their English skills. Students have 5 half-days of lessons per week ("holiday programme" 20 lessons per week) and have varied activities organised in English by our bilingual Group Leaders for the rest of their time (morning or afternoon). The weekly programme, with the meeting place and time, is shown in the school.
The activity programme is the following:
- 5 half days of activities per week (visit Swanage, Poole, Christchurch, bowling, beach games, museums, mini-golf, boat trips, beach volleyball, water park etc).
- 2 evening activities per week (bowling, disco, laser tag, cinema etc).
All of the entry tickets and transport to the activities are included.
This option is compulsory for students under 16 who take the 20 lessons per week programme. This is to meet the supervision requirements during the part of the day that they do not have lessons.
Activities 'à la carte'
Students who do not select the activities options can also take part in a selection of activities and excursions offered by the group leaders (depending on availabilities) by signing up on arrival.
They can also sign up individually for excursions at the school, organised in summer but also throughout the rest of the year (for example in London, New Forest, Dorset villages, Stratford upon Avon, Bath, Oxford etc). The student can sign up and pay on site. The schools also organise barbecues, karaoke nights and film evenings on a regular basis for free or a small cost.
Bournemouth is without a doubt one of the best student towns on England's southern coast. Its charm, quaintness and miles of beach coupled with accommodating facilities have helped make it an important centre for tourism, education and business. The city offers a well-organized transportation system, with an excellent network of buses and trains extending throughout Britain and to many parts of Europe. London is just two hours away by train.
It's never dull in Bournemouth, with powerboat races, vintage car shows, international tennis championships and windsurfing competitions taking place over the course of the year. During the summer, there are weekly firework displays from the pier, laser light shows, the Musicmaker's Festival and the unique Flowers by Candlelight Festival, where the people of the town gather to light 15,000 candles in the Central Gardens. A safe and inviting city for young people, the beaches and pedestrian zones offer adolescents the opportunity to enjoy their holidays in a safe and relaxed environment.
We organise group travel to Bournemouth, departing from Brussels, Mons, Calais and Paris every weekend in summer (see travel tab).
