This programme is ideal for children and teens who would like to begin learning or to perfect their English. A mix of nationalities is guaranteed so they won't have much opportunity to speak their native language.
For activities and lessons, groups are divided according to age: one for 7 - 10 year olds, and one for 11 - 14 year olds.
Students should arrive Monday and the course starts on Tuesday.
Students have 18 hours of English per week from Monday to Friday. We accept all English levels, from absolute beginners to the most advanced students.
On the first day, students have a level evaluation so that they are placed in an appropriate class. The main criteria is age and then their level. We also ensure a good mix of nationalities in classes. The lessons are divided into 3 parts: lessons, communication and projects.
This interactive teaching method gives the students confidence to practice English inside and outside of school. Projects are lead and taught by different professors, opening up students ears to different accents.
Students are divided into different age groups for activities. Schedules are designed to include a balance of sports (football, dodge ball, swimming, horseback riding, tennis, dance, etc) and creative activities (acting, drawing, cinema, etc), as well as one afternoon for shopping once a week. Excursions take place twice a week and introduce the students to the historical and cultural aspects of England.
It is also possible to organise activities around personal interests.
As well as the lessons, students can choose an activity programme (around 21 hours per fortnight) from the following:
Football: This option allows students to improve their skills, techniques and game during 21 hours of training with a qualified coach. Students can meet other young people from other campuses during matches. A tour of Wembley stadium is also included as well as a tour of a professional club to see how professional players train.
Tennis: The 21 hours of training are supervised by professional tennis coaches. Students have the chance to play against other students from different campuses. Visits to the Wimbledon museum and the LTA centre (England's national tennis centre) are also included.
Water sports (only available at St George's, ages 11+): 8 afternoons of water sports are booked in a local centre. Two afternoons are spent discovering the different sports available (canoe-kayak, rafting, body-board,...), and the six other afternoons will be spent training in the chosen sport. Students will also visit the Lea Valley White Water centre, where the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics took place. A participation certificate is given at the end of the stay.
Dance (only available at St Mary's): this option enables students to improve their self confidence and expression through dance, music and theatre. Students will try different styles of dance over the fortnight, visit a professional dance school and see a West End performance.
Culture (available for students with at least an intermediate level in English): this option allows students to gain confidence in their English through learning about British culture. Two excursions (entry included) are also on the programme.
Ascot is a small town located just 20 minutes away from the centre of London, a perfect place for young children and teenagers to be in summer camp. As London is easily accessible, students can take advantage of a small, leafy British town as well as getting to know London.
London is an ideal destination for learning English and at the same time really getting to know British culture. Students can admire the famous historic monuments that attract millions of tourists every year, from tourist staples like Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, the Tower of London, and numerous free museums, like the National Gallery.
Our partner schools are located in Ascot, just outside of London proper. There are two schools: St Mary’s is located a 15 minute walk from the centre of Ascot, and St George’s is on Ascot High Street. The St Mary’s program is designed for young people 7 to 14 years old and St George’s for 11 to 14 year olds.
Both schools have excellent facilities.
St Mary's: The school has tennis courts, a 25m indoor pool, 35 acres of grounds, a cinema/screening room with 150 seats, an IT suite with free internet access, a communal TV room.
St George's: The school has modern sports halls, tennis courts, a 25m outdoor heated pool, 20 acres of grounds, a modern cinema/theatre room, an IT suite with internet access, a communal TV room.
Students stay in an on-campus residence with full board. Both schools offer a wide range of accommodation. There are single, twin and triple rooms for ages 11 to 14. All rooms have a sink and a safe deposit box. Showers and toilets are shared.
Also available are bedrooms with 6 to 8 beds. These are suitable for younger children or a group of friends. Finally, there are two beautifully designed small dormitories containing 26 beds for participants ages 7 to 10. Here, each room also has its own sink and safe deposit.
