Every year from April to October young people aged from 8 to 12 and from 13 to 17 come from all four corners of the world. Participants must have studied English at school for at least one year before starting this course. The programme consists of not only English lessons, but morning or afternoon activities and excursions as well.
Participants follow a programme of 20 lessons (45 minutes each) of English per week, Monday to Friday mornings or afternoons. Lesson plans aim to improve English language skills through conversation (role-plays, discussions, etc.), listening and reading exercises and some writing tasks. In groups for advanced students, participants are introduced to politics or other relevant topics. Students will take a placement test upon arrival and will be placed in their appropriate level, from beginner to advanced.
In the morning, students have classes from 9:00 AM until 12:30 PM in groups made up of a maximum of 15 students. Courses start every Monday and Thursday and arrivals are every Saturday/Sunday and Wednesday before the start of each course. All students will be picked up at the airport when they arrive, and transportation for departure will be arranged as well.
The activity programme includes four afternoon activities and one full-day excursion on Saturday to Mosta dome, Ta’Qali Crafts Village, Dingli Cliffs, the Temples and San Anton gardens in the morning and a beach visit in the afternoon. There are also five evening activities organised (such as a welcome party, a boat cruise to Comino Island with BBQ and music, open-air disco, karaoke and every Saturday a special party evening).

The island of Malta is situated in the Mediterranean and is the perfect place to study English year round. Due to its strategic location, Malta has been occupied by the Phoenicians, Arabs, Romans, French and the English. All of whom have left their mark on the island, to the delight of contemporary visitors.
Malta offers a Mediterranean climate, a clear blue sea, an abundant history, pretty villages and countryside but also numerous cafés, restaurants and a particularly lively night life.
English is one of the two official languages on the island, inherited from two centuries of British colonization. The most popular newspaper is the Malta Times, published in English, and the English drive on the left. Our teachers in Malta are all native English speakers and are qualified to teach English as a foreign language to international students. Malta is the perfect compromise between learning and relaxation.
Founded in 1985, our partner school in Malta, IELS from the LAL group, welcomes more than 8,000 students every year from all over the world and offers participants an international atmosphere. In the absence of well known recognition like the British Council in England, we have chosen to focus on the quality of teaching and services by creating a partnership with a FELTOM member school, "Federation of English Language Teaching Organisations of Malta", and is recognised by the minister of Education.
The teaching centre is located in Sliema, a cosmopolitan seaside resort located 5 Km from the capital Valletta and a half an hour drive from the airport. The school is located right next to the seafront promenade which takes the locals towards the numerous restaurants, bars, cafés and clubs in the Saint Julien district.
The school buildings are made up of bright, air conditioned class rooms, a library, a cafeteria and an internet café enabling students to stay in touch with their family and friends during their stay. Wifi access and an internet café are available for students to use.
We offer two primary options for accommodation during this programme, host family and student residence .
- Host Family
Our carefully selected host families are all native English speakers who greet our students warmly and provide them with the best possible opportunity to practice their English in a real-world environment. Most of the host families live around Sliema/St.Julians/Swieqi; others are in the surrounding villages of San Gwann, Msida, Ta/Xbiex, Naxxar, Lija, Balzan and Attard. Most of the students can walk to school and some make use of the free transportation that the school organises in the morning. Accommodation is usually in double rooms (sometimes triple rooms) and full board is included.
Alternatively, students can opt to stay in one of our residences. We cannot guarantee one residence in particular, but two people who book at the same time will always be able to stay together in the same residence. A €50 security deposit will be asked for on arrival. The accommodation has 3- or 4-bedded rooms on full board with a packed lunch. All rooms are air-conditioned and with private facilities. Residences are within walking distance to the school. The residence offers full-board. For a small additional cost, a Wifi connection is available.
