Students who wish to participate in this course must pass a placement test in order to determine their language level and the corresponding course they will take. The tests can either be written or spoken, depending on the teacher's request. If you wish to enrol on the beginner course then you do not have to take this test, but for all other levels it is mandatory.
Courses cater to all levels from beginners to advanced students, with a total of 9 different levels in all. Groups have a maximum of 8 students, meaning that you will benefit from individualised classes. Lessons last for 60 minutes, and students will receive a certificate of participation at the end of their stay.
Lessons take place from 8:30 to 12:45, with a 15 minute break in between. The intensive programme includes an additional session from 14:00 to 16:00.
Standard Course: 20 lessons per week
This programme is ideal for those wishing to learn Arabic, but also to explore the wonderful city and its surroundings in their free time. This is an excellent opportunity to use Arabic outside of the lessons and experience a unique and fascinating culture. Standard modern Arabic is taught at school, which is the standardised literary language used across the Arabic-speaking world.
Intensive Course: 30 lessons per week
Students have 4 morning lessons and 2 afternoon lessons. Standard modern Arabic is taught at school, but students on this course will also learn formal spoken Arabic.
Individual Lessons: 10, 20 or 30 lessons per week
These classes allow a rapid progression in a relatively short space of time by targeting the specific needs of the student.
One full session lasts 4 weeks. If you wish to reach a relatively high level you would need to attend lessons for 12 weeks.
The teachers are all native Arabic speakers and are qualified in Arabic literature, law or applied linguistics. Some instructors are former Fulbright scholars who had the opportunity to teach Arabic in US universities during an exchange. Others have previously had senior teaching positions at Moroccan universities.
Linguistic immersion is a natural learning technique which allows students to make quick progress through the utilisation of the language. In practice, the course is not solely based on grammar exercises or translation workshops, but on spoken communication, correction and explications. Students are regularly encouraged to participate and speak in classes. "Total Physical Response" is also used, which is based on associating words with gestures. This works particularly well when learning nouns and simple actions.
Teaching is occasionally done in French or English in order to explain certain concepts for beginners. From intermediate level and upwards, teaching is only in Arabic. The texts used in class are taken from the famous "Al Kitaab Fi Ta’allum Al Arabiya”, edited by Georgetown University press.
The school organises several sociocultural activities each week from 16:15 to 18:15.
Students will have the opportunity to visit the most famous historic and cultural sites (Chellah, the Oudaïas, Hassan Tower, the Royal Palace, the souks of Rabat, the Villa des Arts, Oulja/Salé, the Archaeological Museum). Students are accompanied by teachers speaking in Arabic with the intent of promoting the immersion experience.
Academic clubs (Calligraphy, Islamic studies, cooking, film and media club) are organised after lessons and are open to all students. These clubs are an opportunity for students to improve their linguistic abilities, oral skills and for them to get used to understand the language in a real life context. Some clubs are weekly, others take place twice a week or on a monthly basis.
The centre also has conferences, round tables or musical sessions to educate students in the way of culture, history, religion and way of life in the Arabic world.
During the weekend, students are encouraged to participate in excursions to the nearby towns: Tanger, Tetouane, Chefchaouen, Casablanca, Meknès, Fès, Meknès, Volubilis. Prices are very affordable.
Rabat , the capital city of Morocco, is located in the north of the country on the Atlantic coast, on the left bank of the Bou Regreg river and just across from the town of Salé. It is the political and administrative centre of the country, and home to the Royal Palace, the embassies and all government agencies.
The region around Rabat features 60 kilometres of coastline with sandy beaches and rocky coves as well as an incredibly diverse range of landscapes. It's perfect for nature-lovers and hikers.
The city itself holds historically significant sites and monuments that bear witness to Morocco's rich history and diverse cultural life. Popular sights include the Hassan Tower, the necropolis of Chellah, the Kasbah des Oudayas, the unfinished mosque, the Mausoleum Mohammed V and the Archaeology Museum.
Rabat’s has a particularly pleasant climate all year round, its great location on the Atlantic Coast makes this city the perfect destination to enjoy the sun while delving into the Arabic language and culture.
Our partner school is a real oasis at the heart of the city. Located in the Souissi residential district, it's very calm and apart from the busy centre of Rabat. However, the town centre is very accessible as it's a mere 10 minute taxi ride from the school. The building is a tasteful mix between traditional and modern architecture, with Moroccan mosaics covering the walls and ceilings. The establishment is spacious and surrounded by a beautiful garden. Each classroom is equipped with air conditioning, multimedia materials and WiFi. Students have access to a library, a study room and an IT suite. The garden, with its fountains and flowers offer the perfect location to relax and enjoy the tranquillity of the district. A gym is located just a few minutes away from the school.
The school is accredited by ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages).
Staying in a host family gives students the opportunity to share an authentic Moroccan family's daily life and activities while learning about their culture and traditions. Moroccan host families are famous for their generosity and human warmth. They like hosting people while sharing their language and culture with them. Each family is carefully selected by our local partners and meet the standard housing regulations. Many of the families have been involved in this programme for years and regularly house international students.
The majority of the families are located less than two miles from school. A single room is available for the student. Half-board is available throughout the week and bed sheets are provided.
Staying with a family does present some challenges linked to cultural differences. Moroccans are very helpful and generous, but they are very economical and do not like waste. It is therefore important to be aware of the impact that the student can have on their family environment. The guest will receive a lot of attention and curiosity about their country of origin and their culture.
Residences are located 3 kilometres from the town centre, in the Agdal, Mabella and Aviation districts. Single or double rooms are fully furnished. A cleaning service comes every week and WiFi is available. Breakfast is held on the school premises from Monday - Friday. This type of accommodation is perfect for those looking for comfort, independence, an international environment and to be close to their classmates.
