English and activities in Cape Town

Program

Destination

Situated on the southwestern coast of Africa, Cape Town is recognized as one of the most beautiful places on earth. It is a cosmopolitan destination where cultural diversity creates an exciting vibe and offers creativity. The destination has many restaurants serving traditional or modern South African food and is also one of the wine capitals of the world.

Cape Town is attractive all-year round. Unlike the rest of Africa, Cape Town has a seasonal climate with spring, summer, autumn and winter. The seasons are opposite to the seasons in the North, so if it is summer in South Africa, it is winter in Europe.

Cape Town is also considered the safest destination in Africa. The successful hosting of the 2010 FIFA World Cup had a positive outcome for that. Experience Cape Town and the Western Cape and discover the ultimate combination of nature, wildlife, culture, adventure and heritage.

School

Our school was established in 1993, but moved to a bigger and better building in 2007.

Set in the heart of fashionable Sea Point, the centre is just a short drive to the V&A Waterfront, Table Mountain and city centre, and only five minutes from the famous Clifton and Camps Bay beaches.

The school has 24 spacious classrooms, a large student lounge with a big screen satellite television, free wireless internet access, a great entertainment area with pool tables, bar, swimming pool, barbecue and garden area. You can book day tours, rental cars and get information on local places of interest at the Social & Activities Desk.

The school is a member of Education South Africa, which was formerly known as ELTASA, and continually strives to achieve the highest standards.

Courses

Each lesson is 45 minutes long. All levels are accepted. Groups have a max of 10 students. Duration starting from 4 weeks on.

  • General English – 20 lessons per week
This course is for students who are seeking to communicate effectively in everyday situations and gain a good understanding of the principles of the English language.

The course structure is designed with a course book and provides the opportunity for students to improve the skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking as well as enhancing and increasing their active vocabulary and grammar knowledge.

  • Intensive English – 30 lessons per week
This is an intensive course for students who would like the opportunity to further improve their skills of listening and speaking. The additional 10 group lessons per week provide the ideal conditions to further develop a wide range of vocabulary and improve key communication skills. Grammatical structures and vocabulary dealt with in morning lessons can be put into practice in these lessons, allowing a greater degree of reinforcement.

Activities

A "must-do" on the top of the list of attractions is Table Mountain, which rises high above Cape Town. You can enjoy spectacular views over the city and the surrounding countryside, which is home to vineyards producing world-famous wine, which you can find in some of the world’s top-rated local restaurants in the Cape region.

Not too far from Cape Town is Robben Island where you can see the prison where South Africa’s first democratically-elected president, Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for eighteen years. If you want some action, you can find a full range of outdoor activities here in South Africa, from paragliding from Lion’s Head, through diving with sharks, and riding ostriches to white-water canoeing. You can also explore the region on foot or mountain bike, or even hire a Harley Davidson motorbike!

We also offer a wide range of activities and safaris if you are interested.

Accommodation

We offer two types of accommodation in South Africa.

Residence

Our on-site student residence is our most popular option. Ideally located close to beaches and restaurants, the accommodation provides a variety of single, twin and dorm rooms (4-bedded).

Our student lounge provides entertainment with the following facilities: TV, computer stations, snack machines, tea/coffee dispenser, pool/ billiard table, DVD/CD player, a foosball table, Karaoke, cafeteria, bars, a summer pool, barbecue facilities, and more.

Host family

Staying with a host family is a great way to discover the South African way of life and practice the English you learn in your lessons. Our homestays can be families with children, childless couples, single parents or single individuals.

Students will take part in their hosts’ everyday life and be treated as a "member of the family", therefore they should be prepared to adapt as much as possible to their hosts’ daily routines and habits. Bed linen will be provided by the family and changed each week. Bath and beach towels are not normally provided. Half-board is included.
