Destination
New Zealand is known worldwide as the country that has more sheep than human inhabitants! Situated to the Southeast of Australia, New Zealand is composed of two large volcanic islands that boast some of the most beautiful natural countryside with unequaled splendor. With its rocky bays, white sand beaches, expansive botanical and exotic gardens and immense glaciers, New Zealand’s countryside always astonishes its visitors.
New Zealand is also the country of extreme sports: Bungee jumping from the Sky Tower in Auckland, snowboarding, canyoning, rafting, sky-diving, or trekking through the glaciers. However, the subtlety of the everyday lifestyle and the richness of the local flora and fauna will also enthrall travelers of a tamer nature.
“Aotearoa”, the Maori name for New Zealand, means the Country of the Long White Cloud and it is a cosmopolitan country that also has a rich history. Its population of over 4 million inhabitants is mostly made up of European descendants from England, Scotland, Gaul and Ireland (70% of the total population). The Maoris, of Polynesian origin, were the first inhabitants on the island and today they are fervent defendants of their culture and traditions. Its mix of cultures makes New Zealand a unique country of diversity.
Auckland
Located on the Northern Island of New Zealand, Auckland is the biggest city in the country, with more than 1.3 million inhabitants. A cosmopolitan city, Auckland is the home of a large British and Asian community, but also the biggest Polynesian community in the world.
The combination of natural beauty and modernity makes Auckland a pleasant city to live in, year-round. It enjoys a warm and sunny climate (20°C average in the summer and 13°C in the winter). “The City of Sails” has numerous tourist attractions: the unforgettable Sky Tower (328 meters high!), museums, gardens, the historical centre of the city and of course the port with its numerous ships ready to set sail.
The city’s reputation as a centre of learning with a great number of schools and excellent institutions attracts international students from all corners of the world.
