Glasgow is the largest and most vibrant city in Scotland with a population of just over 650,000 inhabitants. It is a cosmopolitan city with social activities to suit all tastes and budgets. From great shopping to a fantastic selection of museums and art galleries to theatres, restaurants, nightclubs and bars.
Glasgow is many things to many people. As well as being one of the friendliest and most welcoming cities in the world, it also offers a wide range of cultural attractions. It has a wealth of stunning architecture and ’must see’ attractions to suit all tastes. Whatever you are looking for, the city has something for you. With three universities, numerous colleges, and a student population of approximately 40,000, it has a real international feeling and is one of the best places in the world to study. It is also easy to travel to other parts of the country. Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital city is less than 50 miles and under an hour away.
Our partner school was established in 1997 and has developed an excellent reputation for providing quality English language tuition in a relaxed and welcoming environment. The school is British Council accredited and ISO 9001 certified. All teachers are experienced in dealing with international students and have many years of experience teaching both in the UK and overseas. They are strongly committed to ensuring that their quality standards are met and that each and every participant enjoys their stay.
The school is located in the heart of Glasgow city centre and is within walking distance of two Residence Halls. The school has excellent transport links. It is a five minute walk from Glasgow’s two main train stations, which are underground.
The school has many facilities including eight well-equipped classrooms, a computer room with Internet access, language learning software and Wi-Fi access, a communal area with hot drinks machine and water dispenser, etc.
On the first day, students have a language skill test in order to be placed in appropriate classes. All levels are accepted, from beginners to advanced students. Additionally, you must complete an online English test so that your enrolment can be finalised. Classes have an average of 12 students.
Each lesson lasts 60 minutes. Lessons start every Monday.
General English (15 hrs/week)
The course is ideal for anyone who wants to improve their all-round communication skills. Every morning, you will study a balanced mix of the four skills (speaking, listening, reading & writing) and the four systems (grammar, vocabulary, functions & pronunciation) with a strong emphasis on practical, every day communication. There are also regular feedback sessions so you can discuss your progress with your teacher.
Intensive English (22.5 hrs/week)
In the mornings, you will attend the General English programme focused on communication skills (speaking, listening, reading & writing). In the afternoons, you will attend special workshops each of which focuses on a specific skill or language area such as Reading & Vocabulary, Speaking & Listening and Writing & Grammar.
Exam Preparation: IELTS or Cambridge (22.5 hrs/week)
This is a full time course which combines the general skills necessary to live and study in the UK with specialised lessons, focusing on specific exam skills. The morning lessons concentrate on general linguistic skills and the afternoon lessons focus on the specific exam skills. Intermediate level is required. The teachers generally have a specific qualification or are examiners themselves. The exams can be taken all over the world. In Scotland, the IELTS can be taken at the University of Glasgow or at Basil Paterson College. The exam takes place several times a month, but you should enrol at least six weeks before. The FCE and CAE can be taken in two colleges in Glasgow (Anniesland College of Further Education and Langside College of Glasgow). You can enrol for a minimum of 4 weeks for the IELTS (ages 18+).
Business English (22.5 hrs/week)
Learning Business English is much more than simply learning some industry-specific vocabulary, it is about learning transferable skills, adapting to new working environments, working across language and cultural barriers. This course offers participants who are planning to work in the UK or abroad the language and communications skills required to achieve success in their current and future professional life.
There are 15 hours of General English in the mornings and 10 hours of Business English in the afternoons including: meetings, negotiations, presentations, telephone conversations, reports, email, etc. It can relate to management, finance, sales and marketing, tourism and hospitality or other fields. The Bulats exam can be taken after the session (see ’dates’).
This option offers customised tuition to match your academic, business or specific area of expertise communication needs. The timetable is flexible to suit your availability.
You can also participate in regular social and cultural events including local sightseeing trips. Recent trips have included free visits to local sights such as the Glasgow Art Fair, Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum, George Square Ice Skating Rink, the Burrell Collection and discounted sightseeing trips to further destinations such as the Scottish Highlands, Loch Lomond, and Millport.
Accommodation is guaranteed from Sunday to Sunday (7 nights).
Staying with a host family is the best way to fully delve into the English language and Scottish culture. We take enormous care in selecting the best host family for the student and all of our families are carefully screened. Students are encouraged to spend time with their families in order to make the most out of their stay in the country. Accommodation may be with a more traditional family, or with a couple or even a single person.
Students stay in single rooms with half board. Bathrooms are shared. Families normally live within 40 minutes of the school by bus or on foot.
Victoria Hall residence
The residence is located 20 minutes away from the school. There are single or double rooms, all with a private bathroom. A WiFi connections is available throughout the residence.
Sheets are provided. Residents have access to a communal kitchen, shared with 5 other rooms. There is also a laundry service available for a small fee.

The school will be closed on the following dates: 28/03, 24/12/2016-08/01/2017.
No lessons will take place on these dates and they will not be refunded.
Start dates for exam preparation sessions:
Cambridge Exam Course Start Dates: every Monday, year-round. We recommend you start your course 4, 8 or 12 weeks before your exam.
IELTS and business English courses: every Monday, year-round, but we recommend the following start dates: 4/04, 2/05, 30/05, 4/07, 1/08, 29/08, 26/09, 24/10, 21/11/2016. Courses will take place provided the minimum number of students enroll - contact us to check availability.
