Everyone knows that Liverpool is the home of The Beatles, but it's actually got much more to it: After London, Liverpool boasts the most theatres, museums, and art galleries than any other city in England. The city also has a uniquely diverse history: Liverpool's black population dates back to the early 18th century, since slaves entering the country after 1722 were deemed free. Liverpool's Chinatown was the first in Europe, and today its gateway is the biggest outside of China.
For football fans, the name "Liverpool" cannot even be uttered without mentioning two of its principal clubs, Everton and Liverpool, who play before hyped-up fans across Britain and Europe. And of course music buffs will delight in all the musical history that has left its traces around the city.
Student life is also a key component of Liverpool. Restaurants, bars, clubs - Liverpool has a nationally renown night life. One thing's for certain: there will certainly be enough things to do outside of class.
Our partner school, LILA, is situated in the centre of town on the doorstep of Liverpool One. It has earned British Council accreditation and has "English UK" and "Quality English" labels, only awarded to the best language schools in the UK.
Located in a very modern building, classrooms are Liverpool-themed and has on display impressive works of art. Students can take a stroll down memory lane with all the old photographs of Liverpool throughout the ages. The school also offers an IT suite, common room, study lounge, prayer room, library, and WiFi throughout the building.
All levels are accepted, and tests are given throughout the program to evaluate student progress.
Classes are capped at 15 students maximum during the summer months, and during the rest of there year there are usually between 4 and 10 students per class. Lessons are each 1 hour long.
We offer the following programs:
- General English Programmes
Allow students to improve English every day. While course content varies according to level, each lesson covers grammar, speaking and pronunciation, and writing and listening. There are two levels of intensity:
Standard Programme: 15 lessons per week
Lessons take place every day from Monday - Friday from 9am - 12:15pm or from 2:15pm - 5:30pm depending on your level.
Intensive Programme: 21 lessons per week

- Cambridge (FCE & CAE) exam preparation This programme includes 15 lessons focussed on exam preparation. The lessons look at the different aspects of the exam: writing, speaking, reading and listening.
- IELTS: Standard English Programme (15 lessons) + 6 IELTS lessons per week.
LILA organizes a full activity program for its students: a tour of the town, visits to Liverpool's main tourist sites, a night out the pub, a trip on a boat, a day spent in York. There is also an English Club that meets once a week. Students can sign up for activities at the school, and it is possible that there may be a fee for certain activities.
- Host family
Staying with a host family is the best way to fully delve into the English language and culture. We take enormous care in selecting the best host family for the student and all of our families are carefully screened. Students are encouraged to spend time with their families in order to make the most out of their stay in the country.
Families are situated a maximum of 45 minutes on foot from the school. Students stay in single rooms with a shared bathroom. Half board and bedding is provided, but students should bring their own towels.
- Apartment (available year-round, subject to availability)
For students who would like a bit more independence than in a homestay, we offer accommodation in an apartment shared with other students. Students can choose between single or double rooms (for pairs travelling together), and share a kitchen and bathrooms with the flatmates. Communal areas are cleaned once a week. A WiFi connection is available. Towels are not provided.
Apartments are located in student areas, and near shops, restaurants, and bars, and are on average 20 minutes from the school (up to 45 minutes away).
- Student residence (July and August only)
During the summer months we offer accommodation in a student residence, in a single suite-style room. Students share a common room with a TV, fully equipped kitchen, and a laundry room (3£ per machine) with other international students. WiFi is available throughout. Meals are not provided. The residence is about a 15 minutes walk from the school. Towels are not provided.
