Embassy school offers different general English programmes which focus on the four linguistic skills (oral and written communication, listening comprehension and reading). Lessons can for a duration starting from **four weeks*.
Groups are made up of a maximum of 15 students and each lesson lasts 50 minutes. The average age is around 22.
The teachers try to liven up language learning by making the lessons entertaining and fun. Different teaching aids are also used in order to vary teaching methods, ranging from supervised use of multimedia portals to individual reading and group work.
The following programmes are available:
Standard programme: 20 lessons per week This programme is designed so that students can improve their everyday English. Lessons focus on the development of grammar basics, vocabulary, oral expression, listening, reading, writing and pronunciation in everyday situations. The lessons generally take place in the mornings. During busy periods they may take place in the afternoons. The standard programme is ideal for students looking to progress in English and also have free tile to explore the Australian culture.
Semi-Intensive programme: 24 lessons per week This programme offers a supplement to the standard programme with an extra lesson in the afternoon from Monday to Thursday. This enables students to have extra study time on a particular subject while making the most of their free time to visit the surrounding area.
Intensive programme: 28 lessons per week This option completes the 20 lessons of the standard programme with two extra lessons in the afternoon from Monday to Thursday.
IELTS exam preparation The preparation lessons for the "International English Testing System" focus on the four skills that are tested in the exam, speaking, listening, reading and writing. The IELTS evaluates the level of English of non-native speakers for academic or professional reasons. It is possible to start this programme every Monday for a minimum duration of four weeks and a maximum of 19 weeks.
Activities & Excursions
An activity programme is offered every week for the students. This is a great way for students to get to know each other and explore the region, during the day, the evening or on the weekends. Please note that some are free, while others have a small supplementary fee.
Some example excursions: - Great Ocean Road - Melbourne Museum - Victoria National Gallery - Queen Victoria Market - St-Kilda beach - Discover the state of Victoria
Capital of the state of Victoria, Melbourne is Australia's second city, after Sydney, with more than 4,250,000 inhabitants in 2012.
The city is an important commercial and industrial centre, but is also considered as the capital of sports, arts and culture. Throughout the year many festivals and events take place, giving the city an international atmosphere, including the "Australian Open", the F1 and the "Melbourne Cup".
Melbourne is also known for its mix of Victorian and contemporary architecture, giving the city a unique atmosphere. Its numerous chic and bohemian districts are perfect for a short stroll or shopping. Beautiful parks surround the city, and it also has an excellent public transport network making access to the city centre and the surrounding areas very easy. Seaside pleasures offered at St-Kilda beach are just a few kilometres away from the city centre by tram.
It is not surprising that the city was nominated as the most liveable city in August 2012 by the Economist Intelligence Unit.
Located in the South East of the continent, the city is subject to the whims of its ocean climate. According to its reputation, one can experience the all four seasons in the same day. The best time to travel there is between September and March.
If you decide to explore outside of Melbourne, the surrounding areas offer spectacular views on the coast, in the wild outback, the vineyards, the steep peaks and the fascinating wildlife.
Our partner school, Embassy CES , is located in the heart of Melbourne. It is well linked by public transport, by the bus, tram and train from surrounding areas. The school is located a five minute walk from Melbourne Central Train Station. This great location means that the school is also nearby many shops, restaurants, theatres, cinemas, museums and parks, which Melbourne is full of. The school is associated with "Taylor's College" and the "Charles Sturt University", offering students the opportunity to easily join these schools.
The school's modern building offers top of the range technology as well as great facilities and course materials. Students can also take advantage of the language centre, the IT suite, the library, the common room as well as the surgery if necessary. Numerous computers are available and WiFi is available throughout the building.
To make the most of your immersion in Australia, we offer accommodation with host families.
This type of accommodation is the most effective way to communicate daily with native speakers and to better understand the Australian culture. The families are chosen by our local representative depending on strict hospitality criteria. All of the host families are located around 30 to 45 minutes from the school by public transport.
The host families, who are very welcoming, will share their daily lives and practise English with you outside of lesson times.
Students have a single room, morning and evening meals are eaten with the family during the week and all three meals are provided on the weekends. The bathroom is generally shared with the family. Other students may also be staying with the same family, but they will be a different nationality.
