School
Location
Located in the South of England, about one hour away from London, Oxford is undoubtedly one of the most reputable university towns in the world. Every year more than 37,000 students profit from the quality of instruction, as well as the numerous opportunities for recreational activities that this student town offers. Theatres, cinemas, pubs, museums, art galleries, restaurants, nightclubs, concert halls, markets, and a botanical garden contribute to the exceptional atmosphere of this superb historical centre. On nice days in the city centre street performers often play music to the crowds. If you prefer something more unusual, you can try the Oxford tradition of punting on the river, or watch cricket and rugby on the university sports grounds. Oxford is surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside in England, including the Cotswolds with its traditional stone-built villages and undulating hills
School
Located in the very centre of Oxford, just a few meters from all the main bus stops and a very short walk from the central station and most of the city’s key attractions, our partner school is one of the city’s most popular English language schools. All our teachers are experienced professionals, highly valued by students and the school. They are friendly, helpful and genuinely interested in our students and their progress. The school is accredited by the British Counciland has excellent facilities, including a computer lab and wifi throughout the building. It offers programmes running for 15, 20, or 30 lessons a week. Classes sizes are small, with 10 students on average (maximum 10).
Courses
Upon arrival, students take a level test which enables the school to place them in the appropriate level group. We have General English classes at Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate and Advanced levels. Each student receives a certificate of participation at the end of the session.
- General English: 15 or 20 lessons per week
The focus of these courses are on reading, writing, listening and speaking, but also includes work in vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation. The course aims to improve a student’s level of English in all areas, rapidly and effectively. This programme can include either 20 lessons (50 minutes) (9:30 - 13:30) or 15 lessons (your choice of either morning or afternoon). - Intensive English: 30 lessons per week.
Our Intensive English course combines the morning General English course and the afternoon conversation classes for a total of 30 lessons a week (9:30 - 17:30). It is designed to help students make rapid progress in their English through total immersion in an English-speaking environment, and is particularly useful for students who can spend only a short time in England. Conversation classes draw on the skills learned in the morning classes. The students are given task-based activities, dealing with topics from current affairs to British history to social issues. There are 10 conversation classes per week, offering a relaxed environment in which students focus on their speaking and listening skills, extend their vocabulary and enhance their ability to communicate. - IELTS Exam Preparation: 15 lessons per week
The IELTS (International English Language Testing System) examination is a requirement for students wishing to enter most British universities. It is also accepted in many universities and colleges in the USA, as well as throughout Australia, New Zealand and other English-speaking countries. This programme is 15 lessons per week (9:30 - 12:30, see fees for 15 morning lessons in the price table). It focuses on examination techniques and practises all elements of the examination itself.
Activities
Our school organises a weekly programme of entertainment for students. Every Thursday evening we meet in a city centre pub for Pub Night - an opportunity to make new friends, practice your English and have fun! We also have bbqs, orientation tours of the city, quiz competitions against other schools, football, parties and trips to the theatre and cinema. All our activities are designed to be low-cost.
On the weekends we offer cheap one-day excursions to places like London, Bath, Stratford-upon-Avon, Brighton and Cambridge, as well as all-weekend trips to Amsterdam, Paris and Scotland. We even offer horse-riding weekends in Wales.
Accommodation
You have a choice between living with a host family or living in a student residence during the summer.
Host Family
Living in a host family gives students an opportunity to experience British culture as well as to practice their listening and speaking. Most of our host families are in residential areas to the east of Oxford, a 15 to 30 minute bus ride from the city centre. Accommodation is in single rooms and includes half-board (breakfast and an evening meal Monday-Friday, with lunch on the weekends).
Student Residence
Throughout the year (except in July and August), we offer students who wish to live in a community the chance to stay in our residence in a private room with breakfast included. Bedrooms are equipped with a TV, and a cheap university cafeteria is very nearby.
Student Residence (summer)
In the summer (July & August) we also offer accommodation in a fully furnished self-catered student residence near the school. The residence is organised into apartments of 6 or 7 rooms which share a kitchen and bathroom. Each room contains a bed, a desk, a chair, and a wardrobe.
Coin-operated washing machines are at students' disposal. Bed linen is provided.
