Language programme in Nice

Located in the extreme south-east of France, 30 kilometres from the Italian border, Nice is a colourful Mediterranean mish-mash flanked by the gorgeous Bay of Angels on one side and the rolling Ligurian Alps on the other. Nice's 350,000 inhabitants enjoy superb culture (museums, plays, opera, libraries and concerts) as well as blue skies, sparkling sea and sun year-round. Numerous public works by celebrated artists such as Chagall, Nikki de Saint-Phalle and Matisse are dotted around the city.

The Old Nice is a labyrinthine quarter of medieval streets, delicious local delicacies for nibbling on the go (courgette fritters, pissaladière, socca) and a decidedly Italian feel. Savour the sea air and gorgeous views as you stroll along the Promenade des Anglais, walking in the footsteps of celebrities as diverse as King Farouk of Egypt and the Rolling Stones.

The seafront is just a 5-minute walk away. A park as well as plenty of cafes and restaurants are also located nearby.

During the peak season, lessons may be held in the school annex, centrally located on avenue Jean Médecin.

Teaching Methods

IH follows a 'Communicative Method' syllabus, which works to develop all four language skills - reading, writing, speaking and listening. Special attention is paid to speaking, grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation.

To give an engaging and relevant framework to learning these skills, your professional and friendly teachers will select topics that create interest, discussion and debate in the class, allowing you to develop your confidence both in speaking and listening throughout your stay, in a friendly and encouraging atmosphere.

The teaching materials IH uses are specially designed by the school and realia such as newspapers, videos and other materials is also used.

As well as taking an active part in classroom discussions - the best way to improve your fluency - you will work on your language skills in small groups, pairs or individually on tasks and projects. IH's teachers work to create a welcoming environment with mutual support among students - so you'll feel at home while your French improves!
