German in Heidelberg

School

Location

The capital of the Kurpfalz region, Heidelberg lies in the picturesque valley of the Neckar river, South of the Odenwald, and is characterized by a particularly mild climate. In the course of history, Heidelberg’s beauty has attracted many poets, painters and scientists. In the early 19th century the town became the most important centre of German romanticism. Intertwined with that age are the poets Arnim, Brentano and above all Eichendorff. Founded in 1385, the University of Heidelberg, the oldest university in the German-speaking world, attracts a variety of students from all over the world.

School

The school campus is situated in the vibrant centre of the academic quarter of Bismarckplatz (Bismarck Square) within walking distance to the Neckar (only 200 meters) and the Castle (about. 1.5 km). The school can be easily reached by public transportation from all directions. Shops, restaurants and local authorities are in the near vicinity.

The schools quality management is a certified ISO 9001 compliant .

The academic quarter in Heidelberg includes not only the Academy of Foreign Languages, but also the Academy of Trades and Technology, the Academy of Economic and Social Management, the Academy of Information Technology, as well as several state-acknowledged technical schools in the fields of nursing and social professions. Students will therefore find themselves in an intellectually stimulating environment with plenty of opportunities to socialize with local people.

All teachers have qualified academic degrees. Using systematic language instruction methods, they guide their students in learning vocabulary and grammar, practicing listening and reading comprehension, pronunciation, writing, and above all, conversation. The teacher acts as a moderator, who does not give authoritarian instructions, but offers incentive and stimulates the student’s independent language activity.
