Extracurricular activities / excursions

Schools offer a wide selection of extracurricular activities such as: sports teams, swimming, skiing, snowboarding, bowling, movies, etc.

A full program of activities and excursions will be organised for foreign students, allowing everyone to discover the region and to meet the other international participants in a friendly environment.

It includes outdoor activities (1 activity per month): River rafting, dog sledding, snow kiting, canyoning, canoeing River, Ocean and ice fishing, whale watching (about $ 1250 for 10 activities) (3-4 per semester), usually free: Gym nights, show shoeing, swimming Halloween and Christmas party ...

Note: activities vary according to the region of stay.

The Canadian education system

Young Canadians study a minimum of 12 years (Primary School + Secondary School). This program offers international students to attend a local public high school (High School). Junior High includes the first 3 years of high school (grades 7-9), High School takes the last three years of secondary education: grades 10 to 12. The school year is divided into two semesters. As an international student you can integrate a class for a semester or a full academic year. In many Canadian schools, the choice of subjects is wide. This is a unique opportunity to discover new materials or improve a chosen field. Some courses are offered for one semester only, therefore students have the opportunity to change the subject in the middle of the year.

You can also choose subjects regarding sports, culture or social subjects. The school offers a unique chance to blossom in subjects and activities that are unknown. But this will also be the perfect opportunity to integrate into Canadian life and get to know people your age.

The schools are located in three regions of the provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador. All offer unique and intensive curriculum, and a wide variety of courses. They welcome a limited number of foreign students to ensure proper immersion.

But whatever the size of the facility there is in each of them, a team of advisers and mentors. They provide ongoing monitoring of students, as well as international coordinators who advise students on all aspects of their stay. Teachers and school staff are very attentive to each student to help them reach their goals.

Host family

Canadian host families

Your host family is without a doubt one of the most important elements of the whole programme, as the families make students feel completely integrated and really live their experience to the fullest.

Canadians are well-known for their hospitality, their tolerance and openness.

Families are carefully selected by the local correspondent and are native English speakers. The people of Newfoundland and Labrador are very respectful of family values and love to share their way of life and customs to the students they host. You'll be swept up in a completely new culture and way of life - it's a brand new adventure!

The local coordinator

The local coordinator is an experienced person who knows the host families and schools. They are in contact with each individual student at least once a month to ensure that everything is going well.

He/she is available to answer any questions that students may have. Once there, they can assist with different approaches and are able to react quickly should any urgent problems arise. They are the main point of contact on site.

An emergency number will be sent to you in case of any urgent problems you may have.
