This programme is aimed at students aged 12 - 18 years old who are looking to study in an Australian high school in the State of Queensland from 1 term to a full academic year. Get to know young Australians the same age as you and be a part of day-to-day Australian life with a welcoming host family.
Why choose Australia?
With a surface area making it the 6th largest country in the world, Australia's borders are enclosed by the magnificent Pacific and Indian ocean. This huge island's natural scenery is absolutely breathtaking, and is home to a myriad of different animals and plants. It's safe to say Australia is a wonderful, unique and vibrant country with a stunning landscape.
The 24 million inhabitants primarily live along on the coast line, so their daily lives and routines revolve around the beach. Australians are famous for their enthusiasm for the outdoors and their deep-rooted adoration of sports. The Australian life would, of course, be incomplete without dozens of barbecues with friends and neighbours. What's not to love?
Out partner schools are located in the State of Queensland. Two different types of school are available:
- City Schools: located in large urban areas such as Brisbane, Gold Coast City, Sunshine Coast City or Cairns.
- Regional Schools: more affordable than City Schools, they are located in numerous Queensland rural areas (Atherton, Townsville, Mackay, Gladstone, Yeppoon, Wide Bay Burnett, Gympie, Sunshine Coast Hinterland, Kingaroy, Toowoomba). Students will discover the authentic way of life of smaller Australian communities as well as the splendid surrounding nature.
Queensland - also known as the Sunshine State - is the second larger Australian state and is one of the favorite tourist destinations due to its tropical climate. Visitors can enjoy various attractions and landscapes, dream beaches, immense desert lands and luxurious tropical wilderness.
Brisbane, the capital, is a modern and cosmopolitan city full of exciting activities, and is only an hour away from both the seaside town of Gold Coast and the beautiful beaches at Sunshine Coast. Brisbane has a booming economy, and is renowned for its video game, cinema, television, aviation & biochemistry industries. Located in the inland, Toowooomba is a modern university town, while the Great Barrier Reef is located just off the coast of Cairns, in the Northern part of the state.
In this programme, international students are fully integrated into an Australian high school just like local students. Programmes include five or six subjects from a choice of subjects offered by the school. School is normally from around 9am - 3:30pm.
Subjects include English, Maths, Sciences, History, Geography, Languages, Technology, Music, Visual arts, Personal development, Physical education.
Certain schools also offer more specialised subjects, including music, oriental languages, ICT, theatre, etc...
All schools offer English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classes for international students.
The Australian School System
Secondary school in Australia includes years 7 or 8 to 12. It follows on from Primary school, years 1 to 6 or 7.
The Australian school year starts at the end of January and ends at the start of December. It is split into two semesters.
Each semester includes two terms and around 10 weeks. There are two weeks of holidays between each term and the summer holidays (December/January) last 6 weeks. This means that a student leaving from September to July can take (for example) the last term of year 12 followed by the first two terms of year 13.
Lessons generally take place from Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 3:30pm.
Some schools require a uniform, others do not.
In Australia, schools are overseen and managed on a regional level. In Queensland, the Queensland Government Schools supervise the education system. Our partner organisation has chosen about 50 schools across New South Wales that are eager to welcome international students and have adequate facilities and teachers tailored to students' needs.
Schools in Australia offer an impressive combination of academics and sports. Most schools offer different course programmes, sports teams, and many extra-curricular activities.

Australian Host Families
Your host family is the defining feature of your study abroad experience, helping you become fully accustomed to Australian culture and feel part of the local community.
Our partner organization's host families are carefully screened and regularly inspected. Families take an active interest in choosing a student to host and sharing their homes, lives and culture with their guests.
While staying with your host family, you will have a single room. All stays are full board.
We suggest arriving five days before the start of classes and to leave a week following the end of classes. If your stay includes more than two weeks of holiday per term (for example, for a stay between September and April with summer vacation in December and January), allow an additional fee for the accommodation during the holidays. A break in the stay may occur during Christmas - contact us for more information.
The local coordinator
The local coordinator is an experienced member of staff who knows the host families and is in regular contact with the students and their host parents throughout the duration of the programme. They regularly organise meetings to ensure that your experience is going smoothly, both with your host family and at school. Your local coordinator is on hand to lend assistance in case any should arise, and are your first point of contact on the ground.
Our partner organisation's local coordinators are all experienced and fully qualified to assist international students on the ground, offering support and assistance quickly and efficiently should any issues present themselves.
An emergency number will be given to you to use in case of any emergencies. Your host family is the defining feature of your study abroad experience, helping you become fully accustomed to Australian culture and feel part of the local community.

Do you fit the criteria for participation? Think this high school abroad program is for you? Then send us a Registration form as soon as possible.
You will then receive a pre-confirmation form and we will invite you to confirm your booking by paying a deposit of €90 in order to begin to process your booking.
We will then invite you to come to our office in Brussels or Paris for a full interview. This costs €90 and must be paid at the latest on the day of the interview if we have not yet received a deposit. The interview fee is non-refundable and is deductible from the final cost if enrolment is confirmed.
If the interview is successful, we will send you the relevant documents to be completed and ask you to pay a deposit of minimum €1500 (25% of the total price). This includes recommendation letters from your teachers, your medical history and other information needed to process your booking.
The deadline for handling in all files is listed in the "Dates & Prices" tab.
Pre-enrolment documents must be filed out and sent to our offices in Brussels or Paris at least one month before the deadline for all files.
Candidates who do not meet the required criteria for age or level are invited to contact us to discuss other possible options.
A phone or Skype meeting is scheduled prior to the student's departure. We give students all the necessary information about their stay, school, and host families, and explain the resources available to them once in the country. All final administrative formalities are taken care of during this session. Upon arrival in Australia, students meet with their local coordinator as well as other international students. It's a great opportunity to ask any questions that have arisen, to clarify things, and meet other foreign students in your area.
