Program
Destination
Bournemouth is without question one of the finest student towns on England’s Southern Coast. Its beauty and accommodating facilities have helped to make it an important centre of tourism, education and business. Public transportation is very well-organised, offering an excellent network of buses and trains extending throughout Britain and to many parts of Europe. London is only 100 minutes by train.
Bournemouth hosts numerous events during the year, including powerboat races, vintage car shows, international tennis championships and windsurfing competitions. During the summer, there are weekly firework displays from the pier, laser light shows, the Musicmakers festival and the unique Flowers by Candlelight festival, where the people of Bournemouth gather to light 15,000 candles in the Central Gardens.
Bournemouth is a safe and inviting place for young people. The beaches and the pedestrian zones offer youth the opportunity to enjoy their holidays in a safe environment.
In the Summer we organise supervised group travel by bus to Bournemouth with weekly departures from Antwerp, Brussels, Mons, Paris and Calais.
Schools
This program in Bournemouth is available for youths aged 12-17 who wish to practice their English while benefiting from the excellent educational environment offered by our partner schools. Students are supervised by qualified adult staff and our own group leaders.
Our partner schools have a good reputation and are used to welcoming students from around the world. The schools are situated in calm, green, residential neighbourhoods near the centre of Bournemouth. The family atmosphere of the schools creates a perfect environment where students feel comfortable learning, working and having a good time.
Courses
Upon arrival in Bournemouth, students take a placement test that allows the school to assess the appropriate English level. We offer all levels, from complete beginners to advanced speakers. Students receive 20 lessons of English per week. The classes are very international, so it is not so likely that students will be surrounded by speakers of their mother tongue.
The course program is designed in a way that students not only develop and improve their linguistic skills in English but also gain confidence in their communicative skills. Lessons are theme-based, covering topics specifically chosen for young students: music, fashion, sport, news topics, arts, etc. Students also work on projects both individually and in groups. These projects focus on clear linguistic goals and aims to maximize each student’s individual potential. Projects include a variety of activities such as oral presentations, arts & crafts, role plays, short movies, comic books, etc.
Activities and Excursions
In order to make the extra-curricular activities as useful as the English lessons themselves, our partner school organises a full weekly schedule, which includes 5 afternoon activities, 4 evening activities and a full-day excursion on Saturdays. The program is a mix of sports (beach volleyball, football, bowling, tennis, Quasar (laser tag game)…) and social and cultural activities (excursions, museum visits, cinema, talent nights, cricket, laser game shooting, international parties, inter-school tournaments…).
Excursions include trips to London, the historic city of Oxford (home to Harry Potter filming locations), Bath, Stratford-upon-Avon (William Shakespeare’s home) and Cambridge, a beautiful and famous University town.
All activities and excursions are carried out in English and are a good opportunity for the international students to get to know each other and have fun together while improving their language skills and exploring the British culture.
Accommodation
Students stay with carefully-selected host families who are used to hosting young international students. Accommodation includes full-board (3 meals per day) in shared rooms (roommate will be of another nationality). However, the school reserves the right to place students in private rooms if the host family has an odd number of students or if the age of the students do not match. Two friends (of the same gender) who enrol together can request to stay in the same family.
The way to school is easy and direct, either by foot or by public transport (direct line). Transport fees are not included.
