Junior Programme in Bournemouth (Residence)

School

Seaside resort in the South of England

Bournemouth is without question one of the finest student towns on England’s southern coast. Its beauty and accommodating facilities have helped to make it an important centre of tourism, education and business. Public transportation is very well-organised, offering an excellent network of buses and trains extending throughout Britain and to many parts of Europe. London is only 100 minutes by train.

Bournemouth hosts numerous events during the year, including powerboat races, vintage car shows, international tennis championships and windsurfing competitions. During the summer, there are weekly firework displays from the pier, laser light shows, the Musicmakers festival and the unique Flowers by Candlelight festival, where the people of Bournemouth gather to light 15,000 candles in the Central Gardens.

Bournemouth is a safe and inviting place for young people. The beaches and the pedestrian zones offer youth the opportunity to enjoy their holidays in a safe environment.

Our residential programme in Bournemouth is targeted toward youth aged 12-17 years who wish to practice their English while still enjoying leisurely vacation time. Students are supervised by qualified adult staff and our own group leaders, some of whom live in the same residence.

In the Summer we organise supervised group travel by bus to Bournemouth with weekly departures from Antwerp, Brussels, Mons, Paris and Calais.

School

Our partner school is accredited by the British Council. The brand-new centre, Rothesay Road Centre, is about 20 minutes away from the main school. It's a boarding school open to natives during the year and our students during the summer. Participants can therefore making the most of the school's facilities: sports equipment, activities, dormitory...

The combination of language courses and activities allows the students to make real and rapid progress in English: they will have the possibility of practicing ideas covered in class throughout their day, so the learning process is constant all while staying fun.

The school offers modern and comfortable facilities, bright and large classrooms, a computer room with internet access and a large cafeteria where students have lunch together. The friendly and welcoming staff will be on hand to help students throughout their stay.

Programme

The English programme includes 20 lessons (each 45 minutes long) per week . It is an innovative and energetic course programme, tailor-made for young learners, with a strong emphasis on collaborative learning and developing communication skills. All levels are available, from complete beginners to advanced.

The course programme is designed in a way that students not only develop and improve their linguistic skills in English but also gain confidence in their communicative skills. Lessons are theme-based, covering topics specifically chosen to appeal to the 12-17 age range : music, fashion, sport, current affairs, arts, etc. Students also work on projects both individually and in groups. These projects focus on clear linguistic goals aims to maximize each student’s individual potential. Projects include a variety of activities such as oral presentations, arts & crafts, role plays, short movies, comic books, etc.

Activities and Excursions

In order to make the extra-curricular activities as rewarding as the English lessons themselves, our partner school organises a full weekly schedule, which includes 5 afternoon activities, 4 evening activities and a full-day excursion on Saturdays. The programme is a mix of sports (beach volleyball, football, bowling, tennis, Quasar (laser tag game)…) and social and cultural activities (excursions, museum visits, cinema, talent nights, cricket, laser game shooting, international parties, inter-school tournaments…).

Excursions include trips to London, the historic city of Oxford (home to Harry Potter filming locations), Bath, Stratford-upon-Avon (William Shakespeare’s home) and Cambridge, another beautiful and famous University town.

All activities and excursions are carried out in English and are a good opportunity for the international students to get to know each other and have fun together while improving their language skills and exploring the British culture.

Accommodation

Students are housed on the school’s campus in a brand-new residence with fully-equipped, spacious rooms able to house 2 to 6 students.

Each student receives full board (3 meals per day).

Our campus accommodation ensures students a safe, clean, and comfortable environment where they can interact with students of the same age, from different nationalities.
