Destination

London

As the capital of the United Kingdom and the most populated city in Europe, it's safe to say that London is a bustling and lively place. With the population reaching a staggering 7.5 million, the mixture of cultures and ethnic communities makes it a fascinating and diverse city to live in. Its world-renowned status as a hub of politcs, education, finance, fashion and art makes it one of the most influential and visited cities in the world. Still not convinced?

Admire the famous historical monuments dotted all over the city that attract millions of tourists every year, such as Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, the Tower of London, the Victoria & Albert museum...the list is endless. The stunning British museum holds a fantastic art collection, and the building alone is a masterpiece.

You'll never run out of things to do during your free time, as London has something to offer everybody. If you're a self-confessed shopaholic, then Harrod's, Oxford Street and Covent Garden will have you sorted in no time. Take the tube along to Camden and taste scrumptious market food while browsing through wonderful and unique clothing stalls. As if this wasn't enough, London also has a spectacular music scene, with concerts being held nearly every day. Whether you're in a huge arena or simply at a local pub, you'll always be able to catch a concert.

Host family

Our formula enables students who carry out an internship or studies in London to stay in a homey environment from 1 - 24 weeks.

Our hosts are carefully selected by our partner in London and respect the British Council's very high standards. All hosts have personal visits to thoroughly check whether these criteria are met. Rooms are cleaned and sheets and towels are changed at least once a week.

Students will be given a house key and the host will be a reassuring presence to help them integrate smoothly into their new environment.

Warning: this type of accommodation is available for minimum 1 week outwith the summer period, and for a minimum of 2 weeks from the 1st of June to the 1st of September.

Important: it is a requirement of the British Council that students provide a person of reference based in London during their stay. This person cannot be a member of your host family. If you are studying or working in London, a member of staff at the school you're at or the business you're working at will suffice as your person of reference. Students who cannot provide a person of reference will not be able to book the homestay option.

We offer different types of accommodation:

  • Standard (Zones 4 and 5)
These zones often offer more spacious accommodation in a less crowded area. Zone area include Walthamstow, Edgware, Catford, Norbury, Wembley, Harrow, Wanstead, Leytonstone, Finchley, Lewisham and Greenwich.

The family will also provide you with a space in the fridge so that you can prepare lunchtime meals for yourself (sandwiches, salads etc).
