Spanish in Madrid - Babylon

Program

Destination

The capital city of Spain, Madrid has an approximate population of 4 million inhabitants. It is located in the centre of the country and because of its convenient location, getting to any other part of the country is about 5 hours by car.

Madrid is a city that contrasts ancient character with modern architecture. It is a significant financial and political city where important events take place every day. In Madrid, one can find some of the most beautiful museums in the world (El Prado, the Queen’s Museum, Sofia, etc.) and the city also offers a variety of events year-round such as exhibitions, football matches, concerts, opera, "zarzuela", theatre, cinema, etc. and a lively nightlife.

School

Our Spanish school in Madrid is centrally located in the "Barrio de las Letras" because most of Spain’s famous writers from its Golden Age (16th and 17th century) used to live here. You’ll be learning Spanish in the heartland of the Spanish language walking in the footsteps of Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega. You’ll find the school located on one of the liveliest squares in the city centre called Plaza Santa Ana. Here you find lots of boutique shops, bars, restaurants and theatres that make Madrid such a special place. All of Madrid’s central attractions such as the Puerta del Sol and the Prado Museum are within easy walking distance from the school.

Each class has no more than 10 students. We strongly believe that quality language education is only possible in small groups to ensure that each student has enough time to express him or herself and receive the teacher’s attention. Moreover, the family atmosphere provided by our small school adds to the teaching quality.

A book and DVD library complement your academic course and there is a living room with student PCs, cold drinks and coffee at your disposal.

Our school won the Star Award organised by Language Travel Magazine for Best Spanish Language School in 2008 and was also nominated in 2009 and 2010.

All our teachers are Spanish native speakers and have studied Spanish philology. We carefully select our teachers not only on their academic skills but also on their enthusiasm, patience and energy.

Activities

Our school takes great pleasure in organising a wide range of cultural and social activities. The school organises a social activity every Wednesday evening at the school premises or at a bar or restaurant in the city. Each Wednesday has a different theme such as “salsa classes”, “paella night”, “degustacíon internacional” or “copas y tapas”.

Every day we organise a culture class. Our teachers prepare a different presentation on subjects such as architecture, Spanish movies, Spanish literature or Spanish history. The daily culture classes are available to all students with the exception of those who have booked the Intensive 20 programme. The time table may vary and is either from 08:00-09:00 or from 19:00-20:00 to make these classes accessible for all students.

The school also offers a wide range of pay-as-you-go weekend excursions to its students. Those include: wine region tour, sailing, local excursion, walking tour of the city. These activities require a small payment from the student and are organised by third party excursion specialists.

Courses

Flexible course duration from 1 week to 52 weeks and guaranteed classes for all levels. A dedicated service desk to provide you with the highest level of customer service. Each class hour is 52.5 minutes long. Classes are taught by different teachers so that you can get used to various accents.

Intensive course - 20 lessons per week

Our Intensive Spanish courses consists of 20 lessons per week (4 lessons per day). If you already speak some Spanish, you can start every Monday. If you are a true beginner then you can start every 2nd Monday (see ’dates’ section). The content of the course will be adapted to your level.

Cultural course - 20 + 5 cultural lessons per week
You can choose to add 5 culture classes per week. Culture classes are held each day from Monday until Friday. They last 50 minutes and can either take the form of a lecture (art, history, literature etc.) or an activity such as cooking or dance lessons. Culture classes are a great way to practice your Spanish, learn about the cultural background and meet new people.

Super-Intensive course - 30 lessons per week
The Super-Intensive course adds 2 class hours per day to your Intensive Course. We highly recommend this Spanish course as the ideal programme for students who want to totally immerse themselves or want to progress at a higher pace.

The extra 2 hours are mainly spent on applying the newly learnt grammar in daily conversation. It quickly boosts your confidence and enjoyment you find in speaking Spanish.

DELE preparation course - 20 lessons per week
There is the possibility to take the official Spanish DELE exam (Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera) which is held three times per year in Spain. Issued by the Spanish Ministry of Education, DELE is the official, internationally recognized qualification certifying students’ knowledge of Spanish as a foreign language.

The school gives you the opportunity to prepare for the DELE exam with a 3-week programme. This preparation course helps you revise and specifically test and improve your grammar knowledge to confidently pass the examination.

  • If you are an absolute beginner, you will need around 12 to 15 weeks of the Intensive course to attain the sufficient level of Spanish for intermediate DELE lessons.
  • Absolute beginners intending to take the superior DELE lessons will need 24 weeks of the Intensive course.
