Destination
Bordered by the enormous territories of Argentina and Brazil, by large rivers and by the Atlantic Ocean, Uruguay is located in a privileged setting in South America. People are astonished by the pure white sand of its beaches, the dunes alternating with creeks and its small bays with peaceful waters. Spanish is the only language spoken over the whole of its 176.215 km2, demonstrating the uniformity of its population, its cultural and ethnic unity, characteristics that have helped to develop a tolerant and democratic country.
The capital city, Montevideo, has recently been declared as the second safest capital city in the world. Security is also complemented by the high standard of health in Uruguay, and its complete sanitation system.
Due to its excellent climate, Uruguay can be visit at any time of the year. The average temperature in summer is 25ºC/ 78ºF and in Winter 12ºC, 53º.
Montevideo, the capital, is one of the only continental capitals with a ring of beaches incorporated into the urban landscape. This singular feature has given the city’s appearance a special character and serves as a "purifying lung". The city maintains historic testimonies; old mansions that once belonged to notable citizens have been turned into museums, magnificent monuments, the Legislative Palace, countless plazas, promenades, sculptures and wide avenues that immediately capture the visitor’s attention. All this is complemented by big parks which are used for cultural events, book fairs, markets or the Montevideo Carnival.
School
The school is situated in "Parque Rodo”, a well known, quiet area at only 5 minutes walking distance from city, in a beautiful, old house with large classrooms, a library, a fully equipped kitchen, a common room and a terrace. This is a residential area where you can find the National Library, several bars, restaurants and shops, the university of Architecture and a beautiful big park.
The teachers use illustrated teaching materials as well as grammar exercises, dictations and essays. Graduated in Spanish philology and specialized in teaching foreigners, the teachers all have many years of experience in teaching Spanish to speakers of other languages and are very enthusiastic and friendly with our students. Weekly meetings are organised in order to make sure the teachers coordinate and discuss the progress of our students and to take on board their suggestions and comments.
Courses
Our Spanish classes are entirely in the Spanish language (immersion method) and run throughout the year for youngsters and adults aged 15 and up. There is a maximum of 6 students per class. Classes are offered at all levels and an attendance certificated will be awarded. Both group and individual classes are offered, as well as many special course including cultural and sports activities.
Every day, after classes, one of the teachers is available for questions and/or to assist the students and to help them with any problem they may have in their Spanish study. On top of that each student has his own tutor, to help them in case they have difficulties with the study programme.
- General courses: 20 lessons per week
These lessons put emphasis on grammar and oral expression, with specific excercises for expanding vocabulary and improving pronunciation, but also for developing written and spoken comprehension. Lessons take place in the morning for 4 hours per day. - Private lessons: 20 lessons per week
This programme features 20 one-to-one lessons per week with a particular teacher. It is strongly recommended for students who wish to learn Spanish quickly and improve their spoken communication. - Combined courses: 20 + 10 lessons per week
This programme features 20 standard group lessons combined with 10 private one-to-one lessons. The private lessons take place after the group lessons and allow the student to explore in depth ideas tackled in class or focus on specific weaknesses.
Activities
The school offers a wide range of complementary activities aimed at leisure and free time. An excellent way to learn more about the local culture, and discover the surrounding area. Practice your Spanish while enjoying the company of one of our teachers or a Uruguayan local guide and go horse riding, rafting, biking, kayaking, diving, windsurfing and abseiling. The school also organises jeep tours, as well as a visit to beautiful hot springs, museums, botanical gardens, cooking classes and tango performances.
