Destination

Ecuadorians speak Spanish very clearly, which will help you to easily and quickly learn and understand the language, especially for beginners.

The capital Quito is situated at an elevation of 9,350 feet above sea level. It lies in a beautiful valley surrounded by the magnificent snowy peaks of the Andes. On clear days, this extraordinary geographic location provides a spectacular view of the surrounding Andes. Due to its pleasant climate, Quito is also known as the ’city of eternal spring’. Quito is one of the most beautiful, richest and oldest cities in South America.

Today the historic city centre with its magnificent palaces dating back to colonial times has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and is full of lively, vibrant markets where trades people from all over the country offer their goods for sale. And if that isn’t enough, the Galapagos Islands are only 1000 kilometers west of the Ecuadorian coast.

School

Our international Spanish language school is situated in a quiet, modern, upscale neighbourhood of Quito. The dynamic and experienced teaching staff conducts lessons in 12 bright classrooms, providing optimal learning conditions for students of all proficiency levels. Language courses begin every Monday for all language levels, even for absolute beginners.

We are also happy that we can offer our students the opportunity to take lessons in the school’s garden, or on one of the terraces where you can enjoy the sunshine while studying Spanish. There is a beautiful view from our roof terrace which overlooks the whole city and the nearby park. There are numerous shops, restaurants, bars and internet cafés just a short walking distance from our school.

The school also provides wireless internet free of charge for students who bring their laptops. Alternatively, you can also access the internet at one of the nearby internet cafés for a small charge. Our language school is accredited by FIDESCU and the Ecuadorian Ministry of Education.

Courses

Language courses begin every Monday of the year for all language levels but beginners (see dates below). Minimum age: 18 years. Our lessons are 60 minutes in length.

You can select from the following language courses:

• Standard Programme: 20 lessons per week
  Class size: maximum 5 students
  Schedule: 8:30am - 1pm (potentially afternoons in summer)
• Intensive Programme: 30 lessons per week
  Class size: maximum 5 students
  Schedule: 8:30am - 1pm, 2pm - 4pm
  
• Combined Programme: 20 group lessons + 10 private lessons per week
  Class size: maximum 5 students
  Schedule: 8:30am - 10:30am, 2pm - 4pm (potentially afternoons in summer)
  
• Private Lessons: 20 lessons per week
  Schedule: 8:30am - 1pm (potentially afternoons in summer)
  
  

Cultural Activities

Every week, we offer a free and comprehensive recreational programme. You can learn more about Quito and Ecuador during dance classes, city tours, lectures, cooking classes and fiestas.

The school also organises interesting excursions around Quito which are pay-as-you-go: Otavalo (Indian market), Mitad del Mundo (Equator and Inca sites), Papallacta (Thermal hot springs in the Andes), Saquisilí (Indian market), Cotopaxi (National park), Baños (Picturesque village in the Andes)...

Accommodation

We offer two types of accommodation in Quito, in host family or a shared apartment.

Transfer from Quito airport to your accommodation is included.

Host Family

Our carefully selected host families have accommodated students from all over the world for many years. You will receive a warm welcome, and have the perfect opportunity to use and improve your Spanish skills on a daily basis.

Living in a host family is also a great way to learn more about the country’s culture. Families provide half board or full board depending on what suits you best. You will be given bed sheets, but you must bring your own towels. Host families live approximately 5 to 10 minutes walking distance from the school.

If you are coming with a friend or partner, you are welcome to stay together in the same host family. Should you have any dietary requirements (e.g. vegetarian, allergies, etc.), please state those on your enrolment form, so that the family can prepare for your needs as best as possible.

Apartment

In addition to our host families, we also offer accommodation in a self-catering shared apartment for our students in Quito.

You will be staying together with 2 or 3 other language students from all over the world, which will enable you to make new friends easily. The brightly lit apartment consists of several single rooms, a double room, a spacious living room, two bathrooms, a terrace and a fully equipped kitchen where you can prepare your own meals.

The school is approximately a 15-minute walk away.

Practical Info

Transport

• Arrival airport: Quito (Mariscal Sucre International Airport)
• A transfer is included between airport and accommodation upon arrival

If you prefer, we can book your flights for you. This must be made clear at the moment of enrolment.

If you intend to book your own flight, try to arrive the Sunday before the start of your course and leave the Saturday following its end.

Visa Information

You do not need a visa for stays of less than 90 days in Ecuador.

If you intend to stay longer than 90 days, you must apply for a student visa at your nearest Ecuadorian Embassy.
