This programme is aimed at students aged 16 - 19 years old who wish to study in an English college with British students for a full academic year.
Southampton is a thriving maritime and university city with 250,000 inhabitants, the largest in Hampshire. Surrounded by Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (such as the New Forest National Park) it is one of the greenest citiies in England, despite its short distance from London (70 minutes by car).
The city offers rich history, cultural spaces, museums and theatres as well as great sporting action. There is plenty to do such as sailing and water sports, leisure centres, live music and world-class restaurants.
Education plays a very important role in local political projects. Academic and scientific research at University of Southampton, one of the UK's Russell Group universities, is among the best in the world.
With excellent transport links, including an international irport, exploring the UK and Europe is easy.
Itchen Sixth Form College is ideally located in a quiet residential area and has been welcoming international students for 25 years. There are currently under 1,500 students here at Itchen and about 100 youngsters come from all over the world to enrol in High School or A Levels Programmes.

There is also a whole host of activities on offer for international students. Aside from academic courses, you will have the chance to enjoy several activities or events organized by the college. You will get involved with wider College life, learn a lot of new things and spend quality time with some british students (these are highly recommended).

You can choose from a range of programmes, based on your age, English language skills and goals. All the programmes on offer require good school results.
Class size: 18 to 25 students.
A Levels or Vocational programme - 1 or 2 years (16/17 y.o)
A levels are a 2-year programme for those wishing to go on to further study at the university level. Students can also enroll for 1 year only, but must take an exam at the end of the cursus (10 months) and obtain a certificate (AS) in the chosen subjects.
A Levels graduation happens at the end of the second year.
It is also possible to choose vocational programmes - a more practical, real-world approach to learning alongside a theoretical background in 2 years. At the end of the 1st year, students take an exam and obtain a certificate : CTEC or BTEC Year 1
1st year - 5 subjects : English as Foreign Language (EFL) and math classes are necessarily part of the programme (2 subjects). You can then choose 3 academic subjects* according to your interests and your future career path (A-level or Vocational).
2nd year - 4 subjects : English as Foreign Language (EFL) classes + **3 academic subjects* according to your interests and your future career path (A-level or Vocational).
A work experience is compulsory for all students on 1 year or 2 year courses regardless of whether they are studying A Level’s or vocational programmes. GItchen College works with 2 Work Experience Coordinators who are available to assist students with finding work experience and in checking that the placements meet the child protection criteria. Students must do a minimum of 5 days per academic year but they can do more if they wish.
Language level: B1 or IELTS 5.0
Remark : as the British Government funds this programme, sutdents must attend school for an entire academic year and take the exam at the end of the cursus. A 500€ deposit must be paid before depature and will be refunded at the end of the year, only if the critera have been met.
EU Study Abroad Programme - 1 term, 1 semester or 9 months (16-18 y.o)
This course is aimed at EU students, from 16 to 18 years old, who wish to immerse themselves in English Life and A Level study for 1 term, 1 semester or 9 months. You will have up to 25 hours of tuition per week.
English as Foreign Language (EFL) classes accredited by the British Council (included as 1 subject) are part of the programme. You can choose 4 academic subjects* (Maths are compulsory) according to your interests and your future career path.
At the end of your stay, you will either be able to continue your studies in your own education system, or either get a certificate and the opportunity to progress to A Levels (for 1-year programmes only).
Language level: B1 or IELTS 5.0
High School Programme
This flexible programme (up to 1 year for EU citizens) is aimed at students who wish to have an authentic UK high school experience studying with UK students. Students do not take any exman but will obtain a Certificate of completion at the end of their stay. You will have up to 25 hours of tuition per week.
English as Foreign Language (EFL) classes accredited by the British Council (included as 1 subject) are part of the programme. You can choose 4 academic or vocational subjects* according to your interests and your future career path.
This enriching experience will be accredited by your Embassy and strengthen your CV. Then, you will be able to continue your studies back at home or choose to extend your course and progress to world-class universities.
Language level: B1 or IELTS 4.5/5.0

Your host family is the defining feature of your study abroad experience, helping you become fully accustomed to the culture and feel part of the local community. Our partner organization's host families are carefully screened and regularly inspected. Families take an active interest in choosing a student to host and sharing their homes, lives and culture with their guests.
Travel time to school: +/- 30 minutes on foot. The placement into these families depends on the availabilities at the time when the booking is made.

The local coordinator
The local coordinator is an experienced member of staff who knows the host families and is in regular contact with the students and their host parents throughout the duration of the programme. They regularly organise meetings to ensure that your experience is going smoothly, both with your host family and at school. Your local coordinator is on hand to lend assistance in case any should arise, and are your first point of contact on the ground.
Local coordinators are all experienced and fully qualified to assist international students on the ground, offering support and assistance quickly and efficiently should any issues present themselves.
An emergency number will be given to you to use in case of any emergencies.

How to apply for this programme
To apply for this programme, you will need to provide the following documents:
- A copy of your school report card from the current and previous school year
- A copy of your ID card or passport
- Official proof attesting your English level (IELTS 5.0 or 5.5 depending on the programme)
Booking deadline: July 15 to attend Itchen in September & November 15 to attend Itchen in January.
If you apply after these dates, bookings are dealt with on a case by case basis. A late booking fee may apply.
Your application will be accepted subject to availability on your chosen course, your English proficiency, your grades and application date - we recommend applying as early as possible to avoid disappointment.
You place will guaranteed once you receive an acceptance letter from the college; however, we reserve the right to change the school (in the same region and for the same programme) or ask you to alter your request for courses in the case of unforeseen circumstances (changes to the college’s policy, early registration deadlines, College refusal after conditional acceptance etc.).
