Summer Camp in Monaco: French and Sport

Program

Program Overview

This programme has been specially designed for young people aged between 13 and 17 who wish to spend a few weeks in a French-speaking environment during the summer to improve their French.

It combines French lessons, activities like surfing, and residential accommodation. This programme is ideal for children and teens wishing to start learning or perfect their French. The mix of nationalities is guaranteed so they won't have much chance to speak their native language.

The mix of language classes and activities allows students to make real and rapid progress with their French: they have the opportunity to put into practice many of the ideas touched upon in their classes. Thus their learning is near constant, all while remaining fun and relaxed.

Full for the week of 08/07 to 21/07/2012

Destination

The Principality of Monaco lies in South-Western Europe sandwiched between France and the Mediterranean Sea some 4km from Italy. It is the second smallest country in the world after the Vatican City and is famous for its beautiful, rugged landscape and sunny Mediterranean climate -- there is almost no precipitation there.

Monaco’s capital city, Monte Carlo, famous as a tax haven for the super-rich and for the annual Formula-One race that takes place there, is one of the most luxurious resort towns in the world.

School

Since the creation of our partner school, almost 230 000 students from all over the world have attended its courses in French Language and Civilization. Its cultural commitment and pedagogical experience attracts approximately 4 000 youths and 200 teachers each year.

Its idyllic setting, a beautiful wooded and floral park nestling on the hillside overlooking the Mediterranean, along with its antic style amphitheatre imagined and decorated by Jean Cocteau and now used for cultural events, create a unique atmosphere.

Set in a beautiful park overlooking the Mediterranean, the spectacular amphitheatre, three accommodation units, cafeteria, classrooms and reception area make the Centre a refreshing and stimulating place to live and work. The study areas includes 8 classrooms, the amphitheatre and outdoor facilities. Catering is self-service, offering balanced meals cooked in our kitchens. The cafeteria stays open in the evenings: students can meet up in a friendly, festive environment.

Courses

Our teachers majored in the teaching of French as a Foreign Language at the University of Nice. They are not only linguistically competent but are also language animators. Their role consists mainly of selecting and developing the most appropriate interactive group/class activities for learning the language (role playing, simulations, creativity exercises etc.).

Teachers use a communicative approach and selected exercises from French manuals, privileging authentic multimedia documents . Pedagogical exploitation of these documents allows learners to develop both grammatical and communication skills, realized through different situations of communication.

The programme includes 20 lessons per week. These lessons take place every morning, 4 lessons of 45 minutes each per day. These lessons can prepare students for the DELF exams.

Students will receive a European Certificate of French Studies at the end of their coursework.

Activities

The school offers a variety of activities designed to be both fun and enriching. Daily afternoon activities include:

  • Daily trips to the French Riviera (Monaco, Nice, Menton)

Supervision

The international experience during their stay contributes to the openness of young people and prepares them for their future. Our licensed team of supervisors is available 24/24. They oversee sporting and cultural activities after school and in the evening. From sunset to sunrise we assure the well-being of the participants.

The reception team welcomes, informs and advises young people. Some spending money is distributed 3 times a week.

The Centre is a secure area of 8 acres to which access is monitored 24/7. Young people can move freely and in peace.

Accommodation

Students are housed in a residence with full board provided.

The Centre has 51 rooms, 40 of which have an ocean view. The rooms have 3 to 5 beds, with a bathroom. Linen is changed once a week and clothes can be washed every week.

The self-service cafeteria offers abundant and balanced food. It stays open in the evenings and students can hang out and relax in a friendly environment. There are often evening activities arranged to take place there: presentations, film clubs, magic shows, food tasting, discos, etc.
