Summer Camp in Oxford

School

Programme Preview

This Junior summer programme is aimed at teenagers between 14 and 17 years old who want to improve their English skills all while enjoying a fun holiday. It's perfect for children and teens both starting from scratch or wanting to perfect their language ability. What's more there is a guaranteed multinational environment, ensuring that English is spoken as much as possible.

Students will benefit from superior teaching and supervision, staying in full board, either with a host family or in a comfortable student residence.

Combining learning, recreation, and total linguistic and cultural immersion, this programme accelerates the language acquisition process, all in a safe, fun, and welcoming environment.

Location

Located in the South of England, about one hour away from London, Oxford is undoubtedly one of the most reputable university towns in the world. Every year more than 37,000 students profit from quality instruction, as well as the numerous opportunities for recreational activities that this student town offers. This culturally rich city is linked to the history of the United Kingdom and continues to contribute to the high society of the country. Henry Tudor studied here and the famed writer JRR Tolkien taught here for many years. Oxford is also a city of leisure and has made appearances in the Harry Potter and The Golden Compass films.

These reasons and more make Oxford an ideal place to learn and to have fun.

Programme

School

Our partner school shares a campus with a renowned secondary school and is located in the downtown area of Oxford. The premises are modern, have their own sports facilities and are well-situated on a piece of land overlooking a church and the Cherwell River. The school is accredited by the British Council.

Course

The programme consists of 20 lessons, 45 minutes each, per week. Courses begin every Monday during summer vacation and are targeted towards students who are at an elementary level. The classes place emphasis on communicative ability and introduce interesting and challenging subjects, allowing for students to acquire new knowledge of the language in an interesting manner. The classes are kept small in order to offer a more personalized teaching environment (no more than 15 students).

Activities

Having a exciting schedule of activities is a key ingredient to this type of youth programme and has the ability to create a truly enriching experience. Excursions allow participants to enjoy themselves and explore the wonders of the region, to meet other students their own age and to practice the English that they are learning during the day. A wide range of activities is offered, all carried out in English, to satisfy all interests: museum visits, athletic activities, cultural activities, parties, barbecues, bowling, and theme evenings to name a few. Excursions include guided visits of Oxford, London and Brighton, a visit to Christ Church College where some scenes from Harry Potter were filmed, a visit to the Museum of Natural History, and to amusement parks.

Accommodation

Participants have the option to stay in a host family (16+) or in aresidence (14+); both formulas include full-board (3 meals a day).

  • Host Family

Our host families are carefully selected and most of them have experience welcoming foreign students into their home. Students share their room with one (or two) other students and the school makes sure to group together different nationalities. Families are generally located in surrounding neighbourhoods, 20-35 minutes away from the school. Staying in a host family is an excellent way to further advance your English skills since you will be able to practice outside of class and you will also be able to better experience the local culture.

  • Residence

Students who prefer to stay in a residence hall will be situated a couple of minutes away from the school. The residence offers comfortable and well-equipped private bedrooms and students take their meals in the cafeteria. This type of accommodation is advised to students who desire a higher level of independence and who wish to meet other foreign students.
