Summer International Team Project

Program

Our "International Team Project" is a program offered by our partner AETS and is made for teens aged 14 to 18. Open to both international and American students, this programme offers the opportunity to strengthen their communication skills and develop their leadership skills.

The aim is simple: students work in small groups of different nationalities. They choose to develop a project to which they'll devote themselves for the length of their stay. Through research, interviews, and meetings, they will build their project together and present it in front the whole school at the end of their stay.

This programme has a duration of 2 weeks. It can be extended by 4 days for some volunteering while you are there.

Destnation

We offer this programme throughout the USA, on different well-known university campuses:

  • Chicago - Loyola University Chicago (FULL)
  • Los Angeles - Loyola Marymount University (FULL)
  • New York - Seton Hall University
  • Boston - Simmons College
  • San Francisco - UC Berkeley (FULL)

Description

Course

The school accepts participants from intermediate to advance levels (beginners are not accepted).

The course programme includes lessons in leadership, communication, project management, etc, in English. Classes take place in the morning from Monday to Friday (9am to 12:30pm). Maximum group size is 15 students per class.

Students projects will focus on the following themes:

  • The environment: climate change, pollution, endangered species
  • Education: child abuse, censorship, young people working
  • Poverty: access to drinking water, world hunger, microcredit
  • Health: AIDS, malaria, malnutrition
  • Economy: the recession, immigration, offshoring

Aims

After 2 weeks of lessons, students will be able to initiate research, manage conflicts, have group meetings, give a presentation in English, tackle and resolve organisational problems, etc.

They will gain self-confidence and enhance their world knowledge thanks to the diverse range of experience brought to the group. All skills acquired throughout this Summer camp will have a deep impact on youths who, bit by bit, will find their own way to change the world.

Activities

The afternoons and evenings include workshops (presentations by professionals, library research) and activities (sport, welcome evenings, tourist visits). One full-day excursion is included each week.

Accommodation

Accommodation is in a residence.

Housing is organised on university campuses, in a shared en suite room. All rooms have large cupboards, desks, and bed linen is provided. They are cleaned once a week.

Full board is included (however, the day of arrival included only dinner and the day of departure includes only breakfast and lunch).

Volunteer

The volunteering program offered by our partner is optional. It follows the "International Team Project" program and allows participants to apply the skills they have developed during their program. It lasts 4 days and 3 nights.

For these 4 days, students have the chance to work for an NGO and offer their services to the community. Our partner takes care of selecting the NGOs according to the interests of the student, the aim being that each teen volunteers for 2 or 3 different organisations.

Students learn how to get involved in real-life situations and understand the needs of different associations. At the end of each day, there will be a chance to discuss and share experiences and contribute to a diary.

The domains available are varied and essentially depend on the location of the project. Examples: homeless soup kitchen, public clean-up operations, helping the disabled, helping animals, repainting old buildings...

Students receive full board and continue to stay in the campus residence. Travel from the residence to the workplace is included.
