Are you looking to make a difference in a humanitarian project as a volunteer? Then our volunteer programme in Cambodia is calling your name as it has been designed especially for you.
Managed by a local NGO (and directed by a Khmer who speaks English), this project welcomes people all over the world who are willing to contribute and help Cambodians and have an impact on their lives.
The programme is available for up to a period of 12 weeks throughout the entire year and there is a possibility to combine it with language lessons (2 hours per day). This is the ideal programme for those 18+ who like working with children but also for those wishing to make a special contribution to Cambodian society: medical professionals, teachers, retired individuals, engineers, technicicians, etc.
A longer volunteer project (up to 1 year) is also possible in an administrative or educational support role, depending on your profile, age and skills. A good level of English is required for a longer stay.
How may you volunteer?
Different positions and tasks to carry out are available and generally involve working with underprivileged children in a day centre near the school, in addition to different roles in local communities:
- Medical care to children suffering from HIV/AIDS
- Dental care and treatment
- English lessons
- IT training courses (basic skills for children)
- Plastic arts lessons
- Cultural exchange activities and sports
Your schedule will vary depending on your tasks and the area you are placed in. The general working hours are between 08:00 - 12:00 and 14:00 - 17:00.
The local coordinator speaks both French and English.
Easy Languages is committed too!
As we like helping people, even from afar, Easy Languages has decided to finance one day per month of meals provided by the NGO for the homeless children in Phnom Penh. It is a simple gesture that goes a long way!
Cambodia is located in the heart of Southeast Asia. It evokes images of a mysterious, glorious and rich past of cultural heritage. The beautiful temple sites of Angkor Wat attract more and more tourists each year.
Phnom Penh is the capital and largest city in the country and home to more than two million inhabitants. Also known as the "Pearl of Asia", it's renowned for its beautiful architecture, monuments and historical attractions. You will find numerous bistros and small hotels along the banks of the river Mekong, as well as luxury shops and small art galleries dotted along the side streets. With an expanding art scene and an exhilarating night life from dusk to dawn, the city is buzzing with activity!
A mixture of Cambodian hospitality, Asian exoticism and Indochinese charm make of Phnom Penh a city that warmly welcomes its many visitors. You will be fascinated by the locals' undeniable charm and natural kindness.
The cost of living is very low compared to what you may be used to. For example, a sim card with 80GB of data costs about $8 in January 2020 and the average meal costs around $3-$6, or even cheaper if you eat like the locals.
The association was established to help underprivileged children who do not have access to meals, either because their families do not have the means or because they no longer have a family. The NGO's main goal is to distribute one meal per day to starving, begging and underprivileged children.
However, this organisation provides more than just food to impoverished children as the association has the facilities to allow them to take a shower, and to provide moral, civic, and sanitary education as much as they possibly can. The association also helps the children make their way back to school.
Since its opening, this organisation has provided underprivileged children with more than 60,000 meals. The association also hosts between 200 - 250 children every day. A child's meal costs around €0.90. Babies are given milk and older children receive a more balancied diet.
Accomodation for participants takes place in a shared volunteer house in an international environment and where they are provided with full board.
A welcome dinner is arranged for new arrivals and participants will also have the opportunity to explore Phnom Penh and its historical sites for a couple of days.
